Nicole Ferrar - Clinical Psychologist
Nicole qualified as a Clinical Psychologist over twenty years ago and has been working almost exclusively in the field of oncology since 2008, in both public and private settings in Sydney and Adelaide.
Nicole feels privileged to support patients and their families as they navigate life from the moment of diagnosis, through treatment and beyond. Nicole’s extensive experience has equipped her with the skills and knowledge to therapeutically address a variety of clinical issues including anxiety, depression, trauma and the physical effects of cancer treatment. Nicole also understands that reactions such as distress, grief, worry and confusion are normal responses to the challenges presented by cancer and she does not label patients. Instead, her focus is always on helping patients adjust to the many personal, physical, social and emotional changes triggered by cancer.
While Nicole has developed skills in a range of therapeutic approaches throughout her career, she tends to use mindfulness-based Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, as well as meaning-centred and existential practices. Nicole engages in regular professional development to maintain and enhance her therapeutic knowledge and skills and she keeps abreast of medical developments in the field of oncology.
Nicole is particularly drawn to working with patients in this setting as she finds they are genuine, open and real in their communication when confronting such difficult times. You will find Nicole to be empathetic, accepting and calm, and she is keen to support patients in a flexible way that best suits their needs.
