Lymphoedema Screen

Lymphoedema is a condition that can cause significant swelling of the arm or leg due to the build up of fluid. This can occur when the lymphatic system, which is responsible for draining excess fluid, is damaged as a result of cancer treatment.

Lymphoedema Screening is a way of assessing & monitoring for the onset of lymphoedema. This pro-active initiative empowers you with knowledge and data so lymphoedema can be detected early, often before visible symptoms appear. This allows for better management and better outcomes.

Lymphoedema screening is quick, easy and appropriate for anyone who has had lymph nodes removed or radiotherapy over lymph nodes or for anyone who is concerned about developing lymphoedema.
Screenings are done using a machine called a SOZO machine. This technology enables early detection of fluid accumulation which allows for early detection of lymphoedema.

Having regular SOZO measurements taken prior to cancer treatment and at regular follow-up intervals allows you to:

  • Establish a baseline for what is ‘normal’ for you

  • Detect the early stages of lymphoedema

  • Track progress

I have a pacemaker - can I have a screening?

If you have a pacemaker, you can not have a lymphoedema screening using the SOZO machine. Please let our staff know you have a pacemaker when you call to make an appointment.

Who should make an appointment for a lymphoedema screening?

  • You have surgery planned that might involve the removal of lymph nodes

  • You have had surgery that removed lymph nodes

  • You are having or have had radiotherapy over lymph nodes

  • You are concerned about your risk of developing lymphoedema
