SA GP Oncology and Haematology Symposium
June 2023
In June this year, Lift collaborated with Genesis Care, Calvary Health Care, and Clinpath Pathology to organise the inaugural SA Oncology & Haematology Symposium. The symposium, titled "Team Treatment: Making Excellent Cancer Care Possible," aimed to shed light on the significance of collaborative efforts in delivering outstanding cancer care.
The symposium was a highly inspiring and informative event, bringing together a diverse group of healthcare professionals from various specialties within oncology. Attendees included General Practitioners (GPs), Oncologists, Haematologists, Urologists, Breast Surgeons, Pathologists, Radiologists, and Allied Health Practitioners. This diverse representation emphasised the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to cancer treatment, where experts from different fields work together to enhance patient outcomes.
Facilitated by GP and Lift's Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr Sean Black-Tiong, the symposium served as a platform for professionals to exchange knowledge, share best practices, and discuss innovative approaches to cancer care. It showcased the power of collaboration among medical experts to achieve excellent results for cancer patients.
One of the highlights of the event was the panel discussion involving the Lift team. This discussion centered around the role of Exercise Medicine and Allied Health treatments in the oncology setting. It focused on how GPs, being the first point of contact for many patients, can play a pivotal role in facilitating access to these essential services. By connecting patients with Exercise Medicine specialists and other Allied Health Practitioners, GPs can contribute significantly to the comprehensive and holistic care of cancer patients.
The symposium provided an opportunity for participants to gain valuable insights into the latest advancements and evidence-based practices in oncology and haematology. It also fostered a sense of unity and shared purpose among healthcare professionals, reinforcing the idea that collaboration and open communication are key components in providing exceptional cancer care.
Overall, the inaugural SA Oncology & Haematology Symposium was a resounding success, setting the stage for future collaborative efforts and furthering the cause of advancing cancer care. The event served as a testament to the dedication and passion of all involved in the field of oncology, highlighting their commitment to improving patient outcomes and ensuring that cancer patients receive the best possible care and support throughout their journey.
